Music Summit

Thanks to all of you who made this year's MN Music Summit our biggest and best yet with over 700 artists and music supporters attending from all over Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa! We'll be sharing videos of Dar Williams' keynote address and some of the workshops, but for now we wanted to share some photos from our Saturday night event at the Amsterdam Bar & Hall, courtesy of photographer Jenna Klein. Check them out here.

The 2015 MN Music Summit was made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. The MN Music Summit is also supported by the St. Paul Cultural STAR with ongoing support of the McKnight Foundation and our sponsors: Summit Brewing, McNally Smith College of Music, 89.3 The Current, Amsterdam Bar & Hall, Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival, KFAI Radio, American Composers Forum and the Cedar Cultural Center.

MMC Helps Artists Like Terry Walsh

MMC artist member Terry Walsh is a veteran of the Minnesota music scene and has led the popular Belfast Cowboys and St. Dominic's Trio for the last 13 years.

"The MMC is a fun, welcoming organization," says Walsh. "In the short time that I've officially been a member I've already directly recouped the small membership fee multiple times through shows booked and swag received."

The Belfast Cowboys just released their new CD The Upside to the Downslide and can be heard playing every Tuesday at Nye's.

For more information about how you can become a member and to learn about special performance opportunities, please visit our website.

We would like to thank Rulien's Lost Muse for being a business sponsor of the Minnesota Music Coalition and supporting its musician programs across the state! Rulien’s Lost Muse Custom Guitar Straps, more easily remembered as ‘Buffalo Straps’ is the place to get just the strap you have in mind for your guitar or other instrument. Each strap is made by owner Kimberlie Gilbertson and handmade of the highest quality materials. Specializing in Buffalo & gemstones, Buffalo Straps have been seen on SNL, Good Morning America, The Grammys, Ellen & Jimmy Kimmel to name a few. 2015 MN Music Champion

As part of the 2015 MN Music Summit, the MMC presented the inaugural Minnesota Champion Award to David Campbell of 89.3 The Current on Saturday, April 11 as part of a special event at Amsterdam Bar & Hall, featuring special guest appearances by local talent Lucy Michelle and David's Blackberry Brandy Boys bandmate Brian Just. The champion belt (handcrafted by Rulien's Lost Muse) was presented by Doomtree rapper Sims and The New Standards' John Munson.

"Because the MMC is dedicated to serving Minnesota's independent musicians, we thought it would be important to start recognizing people from the community that have championed the cause of these artists," says Executive Director Ellen Stanley. "As someone who has spent almost two decades spinning local artists on the Twin Cities airwaves, David was an easy choice to be the first Minnesota Music Champion."

In addition to hosting The Local Show on 89.3 The Current for the last several years, Campbell also hosted local radio shows on KQRS and Drive 105 and has promoted local artists, working at labels and playing in several bands. As the 2015 Minnesota Music Champion, David will keep the belt until the 2016 MN Music Summit, when he will pass it on to next year's award winner.
